About LexisNexis Academic & Library Solutions

About Online Service

LexisNexis Academic & Library Solutions market includes academic, public, and state libraries, offering new general reference information services tailored to the needs of these libraries. In 1997, LexisNexis Academic & Library Solutions introduced LexisNexis Congressional, the first title of the LexisNexis suite of World Wide Web-based services. LexisNexis online services provide access to CIS flagship index and abstract access tools, as well as online access to the full text of related government and non-government sources.

In 1998, LexisNexis Academic & Library Solutions released LexisNexis Academic, an online service providing access to comprehensive news, business, and legal information.

In 1999, LexisNexis Academic & Library Solutions launched Primary Sources in U.S. History, a suite of Web-based full-text research services. Enlisting the expertise of the editors of University Publications of America, the Primary Sources suite provides extensive coverage of a wide range of historical and multicultural fields of study. Modules include Primary Sources in African American History, Primary Sources in U.S. Presidential History, Primary Sources in American Women's History and Guide to Microforms.

LexisNexis Statistical, LexisNexis Government Periodicals Index, and LexisNexis State Capital joined the LexisNexis suite of premiere web-based research products.

In 2001, LexisNexis began expanding LexisNexis Congressional. Our vision was to create a single, unified information service that provides value-added indexing and full-text access to Congressional content from 1789 to the present. Digitizing the U.S. Serial Set was our first step toward realizing that goal. The redesign of LexisNexis Congressional and creating LexisNexis Congressional Research Digital Collection, LexisNexis Congressional Hearings Digital Collection and LexisNexis U.S. Serial Set Maps Digital Collection followed. LexisNexis is currently working on adding LexisNexis Congressional Record Digital Collection to the suite.

About CIS Publications

Almost 40 years ago, CIS was founded with a revolutionary product and a unique vision for the future of government information. The product was the CIS/Index to Publications of the United States Congress, which brought dramatic changes to libraries and opened vast research opportunities for information users worldwide. The vision was that government information would no longer be a scarce commodity available to just a few Washington insiders, but a rich resource accessible to all.

Much has changed in our close to 40 years, as our catalog shows. CIS printed indexes and archival microfiche collections make vast information sources completely manageable.
